Oscars 2017: Casey Affleck Responds to Sexual Harassment Accusations, Criticism
After dealing with an endless barrage of criticism, the tight-lipped Manchester By the Sea actor is finally responding to the controversy now that he’s taken home his statue.
The Academy Award winner claims he is prohibited from speaking about his alarming legal troubles, in which two separate women accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior while filming 2010’s I’m Still Here.
Despite this apparent gag order, Ben Affleck’s little brother, 41, is still trying to clear his name.
“I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent,” he swears to the Boston Globe.
“Everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”
We suspect many of Casey’s vocal critics will find this statement to be too little, too late. He was silent about the issue while they couldn’t stop talking about it during the 2017 Oscars.
Countless people on Twitter made memes about the Manchester star, including photos of celebrities’ clearly uncomfortable faces over his Sunday, February 26, win.

The actor has heard about all of the social media dragging and has something to say.
“There’s really nothing I can do about it,” the Massachusetts native says “wearily.”
And yet, Casey has a plan to convince the world he’s not really the kind of person who would force a male coworker to flash his genitalia at female coworkers, as one now-settled lawsuit suggests.
“[I can only] live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time,” he explains.
There’s one A-lister out there we doubt will accept Casey’s statement.
Oscar-winner and sexual assault advocate Brie Larson handed the Manchester star his Academy statue on Sunday, but refused to applaud his win in any way.

While Brie hasn’t commented directly on Casey’s controversy, it’s unlikely her opinion will change anytime soon, weary Boston Globe interview or not.
